Travel Class – Unit 7, Small Talk

Well, I had a very fun day today. Today was my younger daughter’s sports festival at her pre-school. We don’t really do this in Canada, so, it’s very interesting for me. Lots of games and music.

Today I thought we could talk about small talk. When you travel, you might meet people and you want to talk about things with them. It’s always fun to meet new people and learn new things. But, it can be difficult, particularly when different cultures get in the way. Today’s listening exercise is just two people having a short conversation about the weather. Have a listen and try to fill in the blanks.

How’s the Weather?

A: I really want to go to the ____________this weekend.
B: That ______________ like fun. What’s the weather going to be like?
A: I heard that it’s going to be _____________________ this weekend.
B: Is it going to be _______________ beach weather?
A: I believe so.
B: Good. I hope it doesn’t ___________ ___________this weekend.
A: I know. I really _________________ to go to the beach.
B: But you know that California weather is really unpredictable.
A: You’re right. One minute it’s ____________, and then the next minute it’s cold.
B: I really wish the weather would just stay the __________________.
A: I do too. That way we can have our activities planned ahead of time.
B: Yeah, that would make things a lot easier.
